CRO-CFC Series

Aluminum Jaw Coupling (Clamp Type)

A vibration-damping servo coupling with a replaceable elastomer spider — the forgiving choice for general motion control.

What it is

The CRO-CFC is a jaw (also called plum or spider) coupling built from a one-piece aluminum hub and a TPU polyurethane elastomer spider. The spider sits between the two jaw halves, damping vibration and shock while transmitting torque with zero backlash.

Unlike our metal-diaphragm couplings, the CRO-CFC has a sacrificial elastomer element. That makes it the practical choice when you want to protect your servo motor from shock loads, or when you need a coupling that can be reconditioned simply by swapping out the spider.

Why engineers choose it

  • Vibration damping — the TPU spider absorbs shock and vibration, protecting the motor bearings.
  • Replaceable spider — when the elastomer wears, you swap the spider, not the whole coupling.
  • Zero backlash — the spider transmits torque with no clearance for accurate positioning.
  • Compact and low-inertia — the aluminum body keeps rotating mass low.
  • Wide torque range — from 0.2 N·m to 520 N·m across 15 sizes.

How to choose the right coupling

Pick the CRO-CFC when vibration damping and shock protection matter more than absolute stiffness, or when you want the convenience of a replaceable spider. If your application needs maximum rigidity and no elastomer to wear, choose a metal diaphragm coupling instead. For corrosive or washdown environments, use the CRO-FZG stainless jaw coupling.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know when to replace the spider?

Inspect the spider when you notice increased backlash or vibration. As a rough guide, replace it when the elastomer shows visible cracking, compression set, or the coupling develops play. We supply replacement spiders separately.

What are the different spider materials?

Our standard spider is TPU polyurethane, which offers a good balance of damping, stiffness and temperature resistance. Other durometers are available on request for special torque or damping requirements.

Is the jaw coupling maintenance-free?

Nearly — the only wear part is the spider, which is designed to be replaced. The aluminum hubs themselves last the life of the machine.
