Stepper Motor Coupling Selection

Steppers have low-frequency vibration and resonance — coupling selection must balance damping and rigidity.

Stepper vs servo coupling difference

Steppers have lower torque (usually within a few NĀ·m), vibration, and lower speed; servos have higher torque and speed and need high rigidity with zero backlash. So steppers suit jaw couplings (damping), servos suit diaphragm couplings (rigidity).

Selection points

ā‘  Torque: rated ≄ 1.3Ɨ stepper peak torque; ā‘” Bore: typically 3–14 mm; ā‘¢ Damping: the TPU spider of a jaw coupling absorbs the stepper's low-frequency vibration.

Recommendation

Low-torque light-duty steppers (3D printing, small automation) → CRO-CFC jaw coupling; higher precision → CRO-CS diaphragm coupling. Bore from 3 mm.
